In providing individual, couples and family counseling, I specialize in hosting conversations meant to elicit the following:
- the challenges, difficulties and problems my client(s) want to address,
- the preferred changes that addressing them would make possible, and
- the reasons my clients want these changes to occur.
In collaborating with clients to develop such focused conversations, I see it as my responsibility to notice and highlight client strengths, resources, and past successes that are often crucial to the effort to resolve current dilemmas, no matter how challenging. I have had frequent success with this orientation to a wide variety of problems in over 30 years of experience. Some of the generalized names for the problems I've most frequently collaborated with my clients on are, in alphabetical order:
- Anger Management
- Anxiety and Stress Reduction
- Male Issues
- Confrontation of addictive or abusive use of alcohol, "street" drugs and prescribed medication
- Depression, demoralization, despair, loss or lack of confidence, and general struggle with regulating moods
- Gambling problems, for individuals and affected family members
- Improvement of communication and resolution of conflict in marriages, other partnerships, and parent-teen/young adult relations
